Usually I would just log onto craft something and leave, I lost any incentive to carry on fighting the same old enemies day after day. The year 2011 proved to be “a game of two halves” for me in terms of my personal life but gaming-wise it was one of the better years of gaming for me. The motivation to play video games was still burning bright through the entire year right until the end which was pretty rare for me as I’m easily susceptible to ‘gaming burnout’.
I’ll be going in the order I got around to playing the following games last year, this is the first part and a final part will follow as soon as I’ve written up that section. Spiral Knights offers its players many ways of earning in-game currency (crowns) and other loot. You could analyse the volatile auction house and play it that way although it’s very monotonous or go and do some clockwork levels that give out a lot of crowns and rare materials. If you’re looking for the easiest route, it’s probably the gate with most tier 1 arenas. The highest reward comes from Firestorm Citadel (tier 3 boss stratum) but it’s much more time-consuming and not to mention the risk of death is far greater. Arguably, the most efficient method is running through the royal jelly (RJ) levels found in the fourth stratum of a tier 2.
This gate appears only in one gate and stays there until it’s shifted off the gate cycle to the left every six days or so. It’s always there though so it’s best to clear the first and second stratum of that gate (tier 1) to avoid the 200 crown penalty if you intend to do a lot of RJ runs. Spiral Knights is an online action adventure game which shares a lot in common with the 2D Legend of Zelda games on the GameBoy systems. It was released on Steam (PC) in early June this year although it’s initial release was a few months earlier. Power Surge is over for July. There was one for August as well.
So I’ve been playing Spiral Knights for a while now since it was released on Steam. Not great, not bad, just a decent online java game. As the game runs on something called ‘mist/crystal energy’ you’re limited to a few hours of in-dungeon game-time (at least on the mist energy counter anyway) so just thought I’d post here that the developers have announced a Power Surge Weekend.
Get energized Spiral Knights, this weekend will be a Power Surge Weekend! Beginning Friday, July 15 at 2pm server time and ending Sunday, July 17 at 9pm server time all elevator costs will be half off!
A Power Surge Weekend is the perfect time to see more of the Clockworks than you ever have before, offering more adventure for your mist. So gather your friends, ready your sword and take the plunge!
In short, elevators cost 10 units of energy at the moment, during this weekend it’ll be 5 units which means you get to play twice the usual amount. Doesn’t apply to crafting energy costs though, that’s a shame really. Just remember that server time is GMT -7 hours.
